Wayne Thiebald Pop Art Cupcakes

Grade: 3rd & 4th

Time: 2-3 54 minute lessons

Students used oil pastel to draw their own personal cupcakes. With brightly colored construction paper to add the pop art flair, they assembled their cupcakes into one artwork. Students added the final touch- shadow on each. The repetitive composition + bright colors + shadow is a clear nod to Thiebald’s style.

Students learn about Wayne Thiebald, pop art and shadow + shading. They also get to activate their imagination by designing their own cupcakes.
